Festival of Music Month
Music Therapy is widely used in mental health care facilities to lift spirits, bring joy, and foster emotional connections. As the nights begin to draw in, why not make September a Festival of Music Month and celebrate the last of the summer evenings with a blast of music?
Here are some fun and engaging music-themed activities to share with your residents:
1. Dress Up and Sing
Bring out the costumes and set the stage for a night of fun! Dig out scarves, boas, ties, braces, and hats, and have your residents dress up as their favourite music artists. Grab some inflatable microphones and get everyone singing and dancing to their favourite tunes. Whether you have Karaoke DVDs or old music concerts to watch, this is a great way to get everyone moving and smiling.
2. Form a Choir
Do you have residents who love singing, especially around Christmas time? Now’s the perfect time to form a choir. Find out who enjoys singing or playing musical instruments and start practising early for the festive season. You could introduce a Karaoke DVD or download classic Christmas tunes to help with learning the songs. Schedule regular practice sessions to get everyone excited for Christmas performances.
3. Host an Early Evening Music Quiz or Game
For a fun and light-hearted evening, organise a music quiz or game. You can either create your own quiz or use resources like our Musical Memories Quiz Mat, Musical Bingo, or a music-themed CD or book. This is a fantastic way to engage residents, foster some friendly competition, and reminisce about musical memories.
4. Autumn Equinox: 23rd September 2023
As the Autumn Equinox approaches, the days start to shorten, and it’s the perfect time to get outside and enjoy the changing season.
In the Garden
September is a busy time in the garden! Here are a few things you can do to prepare for the cooler months ahead:
- Plant Spring-Flowering Bulbs: Now’s the time to plant tulips, bluebells, and daffodils.
- Harvest: Pick ripe fruit from your trees and bushes, dig up your potatoes, and don’t forget to net over your leafy vegetable crops to protect them from hungry birds.
