Studies have proven music and singing to have a positive cognitive benefit on older people and especially anyone living with a dementia (even late stage). Singing well-loved favourite tunes have been found to unlock previous memories and aid social functioning.

  • improves brain function - singing learnt songs can unlock dormant memories in those with dementia
  • create a sense of community - singing as part of a group can be a fun, bonding activity, helping to build empathy with others
  • lower stress levels - studies show that singing can decrease blood pressure, while focusing on lyrics relaxes and calms the mind
